If you’re ready to start losing weight and to get in better shape, you may be in the market for some home gym equipment. The idea of having your own equipment where you can use it at your own convenience and without having to worry about a long line or about people in the gym judging you for how out of shape you are can be very appealing, and many have found that the right gym equipment can really get them back into a good routine of physical fitness. But before you grab the credit cards and run down to the local sporting goods store, you should give some consideration to the following pointers in order to get the most out of your home gym.

For one thing, it pays to be honest about how good of shape you are in right now and if you have any physical limitations. If you’re very overweight then some advanced equipment such as an elliptical machine or stair stepper might be a little ambitious. A better piece of home gym equipment to start with might be a treadmill or recumbent bike. These machines are a bit less challenging and usually easier for those just starting out. Getting overwhelmed with home gym equipment that’s too difficult for you to use or that’s too advanced for your current level of fitness is just going to get you discouraged and keep you from using it altogether.

You should also ask yourself where you’re going to store your home gym equipment. If you’re thinking of adding pieces to the bedroom, how much room do you realistically have? If you keep it in the garage, will that make it inaccessible? Will it be too cold during some months or to hot during other months so that you decide not to use it? If you can, it’s always recommended that you clean out a specific area of the living space for your home gym equipment. If you don’t need to drag it out or fight your way around some things then it can be much easier to use and you’ll be more likely to stick with your routine.

If you are unsure if you will really stick with a home exercise routing perhaps purchasing some used exercise equipment would be a good first step. After you have developed a good routing that has lasted for several months then you may want to invest in some of the newer and better equipment. There are many good buys available from people that had great expectations, but they were unable to stick with it for one reason or another.

Be sure to add some resistance pieces to your set of home gym equipment. By lifting weights and adding muscle tone you will burn calories more efficiently and will lose weight faster as well. This doesn’t mean straining yourself or overdoing it. Just lifting a little bit of weight on a regular basis can yield great benefits, so even some hand weights can be part of your home gym equipment and can be easily stored in any closet or under the bed.

Of course your home gym equipment won’t do any good if you don’t use it. Make it part of your regular schedule and stick to it, and you’ll get results in no time.

By: David Cowley

About the Author:

Before you go out and make a costly purchase of gym equipment for your house, you should ask yourself if you will be committed to using it once you get it home and set it up.

It is sad, but it is also true, that for many people, the most exercise they get from a new piece of home exercise gear is moving the heavy, bulky unit into place in their house and putting it together.

Because buying quality home gym equipment involves significant financial investment, you want to be sure that you are purchasing the right one.

In addition to a solid level of dedication, you want to be certain that the home fitness gear you choose is something you enjoy or, at the very least, that you can learn to enjoy.

Otherwise, your new in house fitness gear will probably be joining the ranks of the other used exercise equipment that fills classified ad listings, thrift shops and second-hand retailers that specialize in helping people unload their unused exercise gear.

One thing that makes it such a challenge when choosing home gym equipment, is the many wild claims made about different exercise equipment on the market.

While there are certainly many kinds of home gym exercise equipment that are effective, there are also numerous products on the market that make quite outlandish promises about what their machine can do for you.

You should be skeptical of any outrageous claims made about any type of gym equipment that you are considering for your house. One of the most devastating aspects of these crazy promises is the resulting disappointment that people experience.

This disappointment then leads to an undermining of motivation which can lead to depression. For people who are in need of improving their health and fitness because of weight or health issues, this is a cruel cycle that can lead them to grasp at the next unrealistic promise from unscrupulous marketers.

When looking for gym equipment for your home fitness center, you should focus your evaluations on one that is designed for a whole body workout. This is because in most homes, there is limited space to accommodate home exercise gear.

Ultimately, it will cost you less money to acquire one quality piece of fitness gear that will effectively be able to work all muscles groups than it would to buy three or four different units.

It is important to keep in mind that there is no single item of gym equipment that you will bring into your house that will promote the end-all-and-be-all solution.

While an abdominal exercise equipment unit can help you tone the muscles in that area, the fat that surrounds your abs is best eliminated through wise nutrition practices.

When you combine the efforts of regular home gym exercise with a prudent diet that is followed on a daily basis, you will create the best opportunity for successfully improving your overall health and fitness.

While shopping for the right gym equipment to outfit your home fitness center, check for additional costs above the price of the unit.

Most fitness machines are heavy, so the cost of shipping could have a big impact on the final cost of the machine. If you buy from a local retailer, then ask what they charge to deliver and set-up the gear so that you are not surprised.

By: MIKE SELVON

About the Author:

Home fitness equipment is a great idea for those wanting to improve their overall conditioning, lose a bit of weight, or just tone their bodies. There are many different options for home fitness equipment on the market today and all seem to promise magical and amazing results with just five or ten minutes of workout time per day.

In reality, weight loss, toning or building muscle requires several different components and will always require consistent, sustained effort on the part of the person involved – i.e you! Advertisements and infomercials that try to indicate otherwise are misleading at best, and completely fraudulent at worst. According to leading health and fitness experts, the only way to improve cardiovascular performance, lose weight or tone your body is to eat optimally, exercise regularly and consistently, and to challenge your body to improve muscle tone and health.

Buying home fitness equipment can be challenging and costly, so knowing what you are trying to accomplish with your fitness goals is critical before you make a purchase. Keep in mind what you need the fitness equipment to do, so you buy the machines or devices that will help you reach your goals. Weight loss will require both cardio and strength training, toning will require strength as well as limited cardio, and muscle development or body building will require specific, increasingly challenging weight designed to work particular muscles of the body. Using the wrong type of home fitness equipment in your workout will only lead to frustration and disappointment in your results.

Not all home fitness equipment fits everyone, despite what the infomercials state. If you are planning to invest in some of the more costly types of home gym equipment, be sure to try it out at a retail store or sports store before actually buying it. All equipment is designed for average height and weight adults, so people that are heavier, lighter, taller or shorter than the average may find even the most expensive home gyms and equipment simply don’t fit their body. In addition, remember that most home equipment does not have the same safety features as some of the commercially available equipment and is not recommended for use by children or even young teens.

There are many advantages to having your own workout equipment right at home. It is easy to use, convenient, plus you may find time to work out in between activities at home that you would never be able to work into your schedule if you had to go to the gym. One final tip: consider looking around at used home fitness equipment if you are trying to set up an exercise space on a limited budget.

By: Terry Roberts

About the Author:

If you’re in the market for home fitness equipment, you might be surprised by the variety of choices available. With everything from rowing machines and elliptical set ups, it’s hard for a shopper to know what’s best to furnish a home gym.

Getting started creating a home gym should begin first with a self-evaluation. Running out and buying a machine for the home that won’t get used doesn’t make a lot of sense. Figure out what you hope to achieve with a home fitness routine, what you like to do, what you might stick with and go from there.

If overall strength training and weight loss are the goals, a number of different machines can fit the bill. Those machines that do a good job of providing total, or nearly total body workouts include ellipticals, rowers and some smith models. Other typical home machines include treadmills and exercise bikes. All offer their own benefits.

The key to getting a total body workout is to include not only the visible major muscle groups, but also the cardiovascular system. By doing this, the person who is working out in a home gym will find that not only do the arms, legs and back get strengthened, endurance can also be improved.

Perhaps the most holistic machine a home fitness shopper can look for is an elliptical. Combing the benefits of a number of different machines in a single low-impact, but solid workout, an elliptical is one of the few pieces of home gym equipment that can boast total body effects. Rowers, smith machines and even a good treadmill will come close to the mark, but a few other forms of exercise might also be needed to achieve that total body effect.

In general, when looking for the best in fitness equipment, it’s a good idea to first set a smart budget, decide what kind of workouts you hope to get and then shop for a machine accordingly. Whether it’s an elliptical or a stationary bike, the key to lasting use is finding a machine that will grow with you. Make sure different programming features are available, varying resistance options and more. Plus, make sure what ever you buy has some safety and comfort features standard as well.

Once a machine is chosen for a home fitness program, keeping motivated will often depend on the equipment’s ability to grow along with you and your own personal attitude. What works on Day One might not be challenging enough a year into an exercise program, so the smart buyer purchases a product with some flexibility.

Creating a home fitness center is a very attainable goal on just about any budget. While most machine models will cover the budgetary spectrum, even more affordable models can, and often do, provide solid workouts.

What ever you end up with in your home gym, remember the best fitness routine involves the entire body. To ensure you stick with a routine, pick one that’s not only fun and challenging, but also provides some room for growth.

By: Ben Franklin

About the Author:

If you have decided that it’s time to get in shape and you have heard that getting a home gym can help you accomplish that, then there are some things you need to know before you go shopping.

First of all, what do you plan on using your home gym to accomplish? Is it just to lose weight? If that is the main purpose of buying a home gym, then you may not want to buy it at all. The truth is, aerobic exercise is far more effective at helping you lose weight then strength training, although a home gym can help you build up your muscle mass which can accelerate your weight loss in addition to the aerobic exercises that you do. The point is, don’t expect a home gym to be the most effective method of weight control.

On the other hand, if your goal is to tone your body or condition it, or perhaps just develop a few extra curves in certain places, then a home gym can be very effective. So what choices do you have when looking for home gym equipment?

The first category to choose from is free weights and dumbbells. They have certainly stood the test of time and proven that they can help build muscle mass. However, you need to be sure to use the correct form when exercising with free weights or you can actually do bodily damage instead.

That’s where home gym equipment comes in. Home gyms are usually strength training machines that provide a structured way of performing each exercise. And they are usually designed to help you maintain proper form as you do. They also provide a convenient way of storing the weight stack or plates that are used so that it’s all more organized.

This kind of strength training machine usually breaks down into two categories, the first being machines that utilize rods or bars to provide resistance when exercises are done. The second more expensive machines still use weights to provide resistance to your muscles, but they tend to be much larger and more bulky, and therefore take up a lot more space in a room.

To get good solid quality equipment, expect to pay at least $500 or more to get a wide range of exercises that will allow full body conditioning. There is a lot of home gym equipment available for sale online, but before you buy be sure to personally try out the equipment in advance. Make sure that you go through a complete workout routine on the equipment first, and then you will know more about whether or not it will meet your needs.

After doing your research off-line you can then go online and often save quite a bit of money by doing so. Whatever equipment you choose, be sure to also get the proper training on how to use it effectively to get the results that you really want.

By: Jim Johnson

About the Author:

Getting in shape is on the minds of many individuals these days. Some choose to obtain gym memberships whereas others would like to have the convenience of working out at home. For the latter group of individuals, creating a home gym might be the perfect option to bringing the optimal exercise atmosphere home to you. If you are interested in creating a home gym and making working out as convenient as can be, the following will provide some tips on how to make your dream of a home gym reality.

Figure Out Where the Home Gym Will Go

The first step to creating a home gym is to figure out where it will be placed within the home. If you have a separate room which you can set aside as your workout location, this is ideal. However, for those who have limited space within the home, it is completely possible to create a home gym in a room which is used for other purposes as well. Take a good look around the home and determine which area would be most suitable for your home gym location.

Determine How Much Space Is Available

When creating a home gym you also want to determine how much space you will have available. Doing so in the beginning will help you to decide what type of workout equipment you want to buy for your home gym. Before making any equipment purchases, take down some measurements of the available space as this will prove helpful when shopping for workout products.

Peruse Different Types of Gym Equipment

Some individuals will know exactly what types of gym equipment they want to buy for their home gym whereas others may need to peruse the options before deciding on particular types thereof. Try searching various equipment options online and in fitness magazines to see which ones peak your interest. Also, if you are interested in working out specific portions of the body try searching for equipment which will work out those areas in particular.

Shop for the Home Gym Equipment and Furnishings

Once you have a good idea as to what type of home gym equipment and furnishings you wish to buy, the next step is to make the desired purchases. Buying items at sporting good stores and fitness retailers will often provide one with the most options. Try visiting your local sporting good stores so that you can view the equipment in person and even try it out. Later, if you figure out what brand equipment you want and have tested it out in the stores, look online for the items as these may yield the best prices. However, just be sure that the online retailers ship for free as these products are often quite heavy which can make for extremely expensive shipping costs.

In addition to the fitness equipment, you may also want certain furnishings in your home gym. Items such as a chair, towel rack and even a television for viewing while working out may be good purchases. Consider what extra niceties might fit perfectly within your new home gym and check out options with regard to those as well.

Time to Set up the Home Gym

Once everything has been decided upon, purchased and received, the final step is to set up your new home gym. Prior to setting the equipment up you should already know where everything is going to go as it will be difficult to move things around too often due to the weight of a lot of exercise equipment pieces. Since most equipment will need to be assembled, try to do so in the home gym room as this will make for an easier time getting everything set up and ready to go. Once you have it all set up, you are ready to get started working out in the convenience of your own home.

Need help paying for your home gym?
